The newly formed Carson City Young Republicans will host a town hall meeting from 1-3 p.m. Sunday with U.S. Rep. Dean Heller.

Held at Carson High School's Senator Square, 1111 N. Saliman Road, all young people interested in the political affairs of Washington, D.C., are encouraged to attend. Seating is limited.

"Young people should attend because of what's going on in Washington, D.C.," said Carol Howell, who is coordinator with the Carson City Young Republicans and member of the Carson City Republican Women's Club.

"It will have an effect (on them) for the rest of their lives. Even if they're not of voting age, they can still get involved by writing letters to their congressman, representatives, senator and President Obama. Tell them how they feel about it " one way or the other."

The meeting will be held just inside the main doors of the school. Doors open at 12:30 p.m. and will be closed at 1 p.m. The area holds seating for about 200, with standing room on the outer area and on the second level above Senator Square.

"We are going to put the young people up front," Howell said. "That's who this is for. It's a chance for their young voices to be heard."

The meeting is open to the public, however, Howell recommends high school students attend.

"They have a lot to learn about government," she said.
