The Carson softball team rebounded from a split Friday to sweep the competition Saturday at a tournament in Sacramento.
The Senators grabbed a 6-1 win over Fallon and a 6-3 victory over Rosemont with pitcher Cassie Vondrak taking both wins.
Against the Greenwave, the Senators trailed 1-0 early when Fallon reached on an error and gave up an unearned run. Vondrak shut down the Greenwave the remainder of the game as she struck out nine of the 21 batters she faced.
The Senators didn't get on the scoreboard until the fifth inning when Kristin Winthrow knocked in the tying run and Belen Munoz drove in the winning run on a single.
In the second game, Vondrak gave up two unearned runs in the first inning on three errors before striking out 10 and allowing two hits.
Hannah Shaw went 4-for-4 with two RBIs with one of them coming on a triple that gave them the go-ahead run in the second inning.
The Senators (4-1) open up their league schedule Thursday against South Tahoe.
JV SOFTBALL: CARSON SECOND
Carson High's junior varsity softball team finished in second place in the Reed JV Tournament.
Carson lost 5-1 in the finals to Spanish Springs. To reach the finals, Carson beat Reed twice, 4-1 and 5-4, and Douglas, 5-1.
Carson was held to just three hits in the championship game, two by Emily Collins and one by Caitlin Sinclair.
In the 4-1 win over Reed, Christina Gallegos pitched a 1-hitter and fanned 10. Morgan Kleine led the offense with three hits, while Lindsay Burroughs and Emily Collins collected two hits and drove in a run each.
Against Douglas, Gallegos and Allison Vondrak shared the mound work, Gallegos going the first three. Taylor Rae Canfield and Vondrak collected two hits apiece. Canfield drove in two runs and Vondrak and Sinclair each drove in a run.
In the second win over Reed, Gallegos fanned eight to pick up the win. Collins hit a triple and drove in two runs, while Sinclair added a double.
Carson is 4-2 overall.
TRACK: DAMONTE BOYS, DOUGLAS GIRLS WIN
Richard Shroy won the 3,200 in 10:19, Cameron Childers the pole vault with a mark of 12 feet and Luke Carter took the 300 hurdles in 42.2 for Carson's only wins in a four-way track meet with Whittell, Damonte Ranch and Douglas in Minden.
Damonte won the boys meet with 100.5, while Carson had 78, Douglas 50 and Whittell 33.5
Douglas won the girls' meet with 111, while Damonte Ranch tallied 103.5.
Shroy was timed in 10:16.8. Shroy was second in the 1,600 at 4:49.3. Carter also was second in the 100 hurdles in 17.9. Carson won the 3,200 relay in 9:46.2.
Douglas's Jordan Cruz won the 200 in 22.3, the Tigers' only win in the boys meet.
On the girls' side. Carson's Alexis Fallon was second in the 300 hurdles at 53.5 and triple jump at 32-3.5. Fallon was fourth in the 100 hurdles at 19.6.
Douglas' Jessica Waggoner won the discus (123-5) and was second in the shot at 36-feet 1-inch. Natasha Brown won the long jump in 16 f eet, while Katie Dry took the 100 in 13.2 and the 200 in 27.0.
Kyra Barth won the 110 hurdles in 18.0.
JV BASEBALL: CHS GOES 1-1
Carson won its first game of the season over South Tahoe, 14-1, on the strength of a four-hitter by Drew Moreland, who fanned seven.
Danny Gall went 3-for-3, while Adam Whitt, Tim Baylor, Bryce Altus and Moreland added two hits each.
Against Truckee, the Senators blew a 12-3 second-inning lead and lost 13-12. Shea Bondi led the offense with three hits, including a homer. Brock Pradere, Baylor and Gall all had two hits.
