Carson City Health Department's food-service inspections for the week of March 1 (all scores are on a 100-point scale, with points deducted depending on the severity of violations):

- Eagle Valley Middle School, 4151 E. Fifth St., school cafeteria, fee exempt, scored 100 points.

- Empire Elementary School, 1260 Monte Rosa St., school cafeteria, fee exempt, scored 100 points.

- Capital Christian School, 1600 Snyder Ave., school cafeteria, fee exempt, scored 97 points. An accurate thermometer is not available for verifying food cooking, cooling and re-heating temperatures. No Certified Food Manager/Handler is on duty at this facility.

- Fremont, John C. Elementary School, 1511 Firebox Road, school cafeteria, fee exempt, scored 99 points. Found no measurable Quat sanitizer residual in the sanitizer buckets or nailbrush container at the handsink.

- Seeliger, Al Elementary School, 2800 S. Saliman St., school cafeteria, fee exempt, scored 100 points.

- Carson Middle School, 1140 W. King St., school cafeteria, fee exempt, scored 100 points.

- Mark Twain Elementary School, 2111 Carriage Crest Dr., school cafeteria, fee exempt, scored 100 points.

- Smith's Food and Drug, 599 E. William St., retail grocery, complaint inspection, scored 95 points. The milk and dairy products in the dairy display cooler were not kept at an internal cold holding temperature of 40F or below. The milk temperatures ranged from 34-61F. Management was instructed to discard all products which were not at 40F or less. The display cooler did not circulate cold air in a way which keeps the internal temperature of all the dairy products at 40F or less.

- Gold Dust West - Carson City, 2171 E. Highway 50, bar/lounge, bowling alley bar, scored 100 points.

- Taqueria La Salsa, 1946 E. Highway 50, restaurant, scored 98 points. No certified food manager or handler is on duty at this time.

- Quik Stop Markets Inc., 3006 N. Roop St., convenience store, scored 100 points.

- Flavor of India, 2329 N. Carson St., restaurant, follow up inspection, scored 100 points.

- Safeway No. 2247, 2035 N. Carson St., bakery, scored 98 points. No Certified Food Handler/Manager on duty in this facility.

- Safeway No. 2247, 2035 N. Carson St., produce department, scored 98 points. There is no Certified Food Manager/Handler on duty at this facility.

- Pizza Factory of Carson City, 3120 E. Highway 50 No. 3, restaurant, scored 93 points. Found cooked, diced ham and potato salad at 50-53F at the salad bar. Found tomato/meat sauce in a warming unit at 70-100F. There is no Certified Food Manger/Handler on duty at this facility.

- Molly's Catering & Gourmet, 220 W. John St., take out; caterer, scored 99 points. The thermometer in the reach-in opposite the cook line is not registering the actual ambient temperature. No chlorine test strips are available to verify the sanitizer concentration. The 2-door reach-in freezer needs a thermometer.

- Thurman's Ranch House, 2943 E. Highway 50, restaurant, scored 95 points. Found containers of prepared foods (i.e. tuna salad) without labels as to the contents and date prepared. Also found several containers of dry foods (i.e. sugar) without labels. Found wet wiping cloths laying on various prep surfaces throughout the kitchen. The upper half of the main ice machine needs cleaning. There is dust accumulating on the ceiling beams about the coffee station. The inside of all reach-in units need to be cleaned. Fan guards inside all cold units need cleaning. Thick dust has accumulated on the wall behind the main ice machine.

- Thurman's Ranch House, 2943 E. Highway 50, bar/lounge, scored 99 points. Thoroughly clean the inside of all bar reach-in units. Pay attention to the water build-up on the inside bottom shelves. These units are to remain dry inside.

- Tip Top Amusements, 1990 S. Roop St., wholesale distributing, scored 98 points. Food are stored directly on the floor in the receiving area or stored on shelves that are approximately 1-2 inches high.

- Playa Azul, 415 E. William St., restaurant, scored 89 points. Containers of prepared foods in the walk-in are not properly labeled. The thermometer in the salsa make-up reach-in is broken. Containers of salsas are not kept at 40F or lower at the self-serve area (repeat violation). Found spoon and tong handles laying in foods (prepared salsa and tortilla chips). Found foods stored in broken plastic containers and containers without tight-fitting lids in the walk-in. Observed cook improperly cooling large pots of beans. Beans were over 140F in the center of the pot after being taken off the stove several hours earlier. A plate is being used to dispense cooked Mexican rice from a container in the walk-in. No paper towels are provided in the dispenser at the kitchen hand sink. There is no hand soap in the restroom. The ceiling fan guard in the dishwashing area of the kitchen is detached from the ceiling. The back of the handsink in the restroom needs caulk. Floor tiles are loose and/or broken in the restroom. There is no Certified Food Manager/Handler on duty.

- Titos Restaurant, 444 E. William St., scored 98 points. No certified food handler was present at the time of this inspection. At least one certified food handler must be present during operations. The establishment was clean and well maintained.

- Titos Restaurant, 444 E. William St., bar/lounge, scored 100 points.

- Las Palmitas Restaurant, 1939 N. Carson St., restaurant, scored 100 points.

- Carson City BBQ Co., 5110 S. Edmonds Drive, caterer; mobile catering, scored 98 points. At the Veterans BBQ at the Capitol grounds no certified food handler was present during the time of inspection. At least one certified food handler must be present during operations.

- Lady Tamales, The, 933 E. Woodside Drive, No. 102, restaurant, scored 98 points. There is no Certified Food Handler on duty at this facility.

- Crowbar, 4750 E. Highway 50 No. 1, bar/lounge, scored 98 points. No disposable paper towels are available at the handsink.

- National's Cafe, 1701 N. Carson St., restaurant, scored 98 points. Some dry food containers are not labeled as to their contents.

- Dollar Tree Store, 2709 N. Carson St., retail grocery, scored 100 points.

- Port of Subs No. 69, 3721 N. Carson St., restaurant, scored 84 points. Found tuna salad on the front make-up unit at 49-54F. Observed employee putting on new plastic gloves without first washing hands. Bulk logs of meats and cheeses in the "drop in" unit are at 44F. Plastic utensils are stored improperly for customer use. Fluorescent lights in the kitchen over the prep area need to be shielded. Panels have been moved out of place in the kitchen ceiling. There is no Certified Food Handler on site at this facility.

- Carson City Nugget, 507 N. Carson St., restaurant, Nugget La Casa De Oro, scored 100 points. This restaurant is temporarily closed for the season and plans are to re-open around May-June.

- Carson City Nugget, 507 N. Carson St., restaurant, Nugget Buffet, scored 95 points. There was no detectable sanitizer in the rinse water of the mechanical dishwasher. This problem was corrected on the spot. The ice scoop was found with the handle in the ice.

- Carson City Nugget, 507 N. Carson St., restaurant, Nugget Steak House, scored 99 points. Found food stored in refrigerators without a label showing date and common date.

- Carson City Nugget, 507 N. Carson St., restaurant, Nugget Snack Bar, scored 98 points. The food in the small under-counter refrigerator was found at 43F and was not at 40F or less.

- Carson City Nugget, 507 N. Carson St., restaurant, Nugget main kitchen, scored 95 points. Some ice cream containers were found in the freezer on shelves under meat products. This could result in meat juices dripping onto the covers of the ice cream. This was corrected on the spot. Found no test kits were available or in use to confirm proper sanitizer levels in the rinse water in the mechanical dishwashers. There were no sanitary (paper) towels at the hand sink.

- Carson City Nugget, 507 N. Carson St., restaurant, Nugget Coffee Shop, scored 98 points. Several buckets of sanitizer solution did not have detectable amounts of sanitizer. Found an electrical outlet fixture hanging out of the wall in the "sweet shop." It was covered in dust and debris.

- Carl's Jr./Green Burrito, 1315 S. Carson St., restaurant, scored 99 points. The fan grate in the under-counter reach-in refrigerator was dirty with dust and debris.
