New York, March 15. P. T. Barnum, the great showman, has been greatly interested in reading the remarkable performances of the late Nevada legislature, and today has forwarded the following dispatch to John Piper, of Virginia City: "Dear Sir: Ever on the alert to the people of America, and believing that the constitutional members of the Legislature from Storey County would fill the bill, I ask you as a favor to engage for a term of six months Pete Smith (who shall be manager), Tom Lane, J. P Wheeler, J. E. Allan, G. L. Andrews, J. P. Flannery, Ivy Fulton ... to be known as the 'Railroad Constitutional Troupe.' Advice at once. Tell the boys that there is big money in this. Yours, P. T. Barnum."

A move is on foot to erect a church in Golconda. It was not thought a necessity but now Golconda has a paper which necessarily introduces in the once pure town, a "devil." The evolution of the wise is: We must have a church to offset the devil. " Golconda News

Nevada's per capita relief expenditure for 1938 was $114.60, third highest in the nation. Montana and South Dakota alone surpass Nevada. The national average was $72.60.

Pay raises for 2300 classified employees in Nevada totaling $275,000 would be provided by AB20 and was passed the Assembly. State workers would get pay raises ranging up to 15 percent but averaging out at 9.9 percent.

Carson City's downtown is targeted for revitalization. "This approach addresses redevelopment with a spirit and an enthusiasm," said Supervisor Kay Bennett, spearheading the drive.

Shoes for the homeless. According to Kim Riggs, homeless coordinator for the Carson City School District, nothing feels better than putting a new shoe on and giving it a walk. The last year's Easter Shoe Program was a success and had support from community service groups.
