A Navy jet was recovered safely at the Fallon Naval Air Station following an in-flight emergency Friday morning, the public affairs office reported late Friday afternoon.
According to Zip Upham, the base's public affairs officer, the aircraft, an FA-18E Super Hornet, suffered a hydraulic caution warning that required the pilot to shut down one engine and land as soon as practical.
Upham said during the jet's approach to NAS Fallon, about 2,000 pounds of fuel were released east of the city of Fallon.
The fuel release was conducted at 6,000 feet above ground level in accordance with both Navy and FAA procedures.
Upham said this allowed the aircraft to make a safe landing at NAS Fallon.
The Hornet belongs to Strike Fighter Squadron Fourteen out of Lemoore, Calif.
