UOP knocks off Idaho

STOCKTON, Calif. (AP) " Anthony Brown and Joe Ford each had 13 points and six rebounds to lead Pacific to a 69-59 victory Monday night over Idaho in the quarterfinals of the inaugural CollegeInsider.com Tournament.

Brown and Ford took control inside as the Tigers (21-12) assumed command early in the second half after a seesaw opening half. The duo combined for 12 points as Pacific began the second half with a 16-8 run to push its lead into double digits for the first time.

Pacific built a 56-43 lead on a 3-pointer by James Doran with nine minutes remaining and cruised to the finish as its lead never fell below seven points.

Pacific, which has won seven of its last eight games, will play at Bradley on Wednesday in the tournament semifinals.

Sam Willard had 12 points and six rebounds for Pacific as the Tigers held a 38-30 rebounding advantage and 36-28 edge in points in the paint over the taller Vandals.

The Tigers also got stellar play from Terrell Smith, who had eight points, six rebounds and five assists. He also led a defensive charge that limited Idaho 39 percent shooting.

Mac Hopson had 16 points to lead Idaho (17-16). Marvin Jefferson had 12 points, eight rebounds and three blocks and Terrence Simmons scored 11 for the Vandals.

Hopson scored seven consecutive points to give Idaho its first lead midway through the half before Pacific rallied to take a 29-25 advantage with three minutes remaining before halftime.

The Tigers led 31-29 at the break, then began the second half with a 6-2 run.
