Saying the need this year is greater than last year, The Salvation Army will hold signups Friday for families in need of assistance for an Easter meal.
"Last year we helped 100 families," said Kaysha Kight, social services director. "I do expect more people this year, with the economy and everything, quite a bit more than last year."
Signups will be held from 1:15-3:15 p.m. at The Salvation Army office, 661 Colorado St. Those who are signing up must appear in person and bring Nevada identification, Social Security cards for everyone in the household, current proof of residence (utility bill, lease, etc.) and proof of total household income.
Each box will contain a ham, scalloped potatoes, vegetables, a can of tuna, spaghetti sauce, pasta, cereal " a little something to last a couple of days.
"We are (associated) with the Food Bank of Northern Nevada," Kight said. "We are doing this through them."
Kight said they accept fresh and packaged food donations from the public. To donate, call 887-9120.
