In "Back To The Future" the time machine was an automobile. That's understandable. The old car buff gets behind the wheel of his classic and is transported back to a simpler and sweeter time. Warm memories flood his soul.
The old car enthusiast seeks out his project and redeems it from the junk yard. He invests time, talent and treasure into its restoration. He takes satisfaction and finds joy in the transformation of his vehicle. Sound familiar?
In Christ, one is chosen (I Peter 2:9). He is redeemed by the precious blood of Christ (I Peter 1:18-19). Inwardly he is being renewed day by day (II Corinthians 4:16). He is being transformed into Christ's likeness with ever-increasing glory (II Corinthians 3:18). He is a work in progress, a work that God will complete. (Philippians 1:6; Hebrews 12:2)
As the restored vehicle is given new life, so the Christian is born again and in Christ walks in the newness of life (John 3:3-5; Romans 6:3-5).
The next time that you see an old car with a new look, remember that God specializes in making all things new (II Corinthians 5:17; Revelation 21:5). Let Him begin a good work in you.
