Events and activities for April's Child Abuse Prevention Month will be held across the nation to bring awareness and promote this year's theme " "Those Who Cared Enough to Make the Call."
It is the goal of Prevent Child Abuse America, Nevada Chapter, to have a pinwheel display in every county in Nevada this year. In Carson City there are several events to promote child abuse prevention awareness. During the first week of April, Seeliger Elementary School will host a student-created pinwheel display on their campus.
There will be a Candlelight Vigil sponsored by Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) on April 2. It will start at 4 p.m. on the Legislative Lawn. And advocates, along with Ron Wood Family Resource Center and family-oriented groups in Douglas County, will plant pinwheels on the legislative lawn on April 15 " and you can help with the planting.
There also will be a display inside the Legislature building, and pinwheels will be placed on each legislator's desk as a reminder that we all need to fight against the abuse of children.

CARSON HIGH SAFE GRAD FUNDRAISER
For 19 years all of you have helped in some way with Safe Grad Night " a positive tradition that keeps all of our graduates safe while they celebrate with their friends one final time before they head their separate ways.
Since the creation of this amazing program, alcohol-related deaths of students on graduation night are no longer the top priority of local officers.
Thanks to the school's commitment, the community and, of course, the hard-working parents on the Carson High PTSA, this graduation night is a win-win for everyone. This year you can support Safe Grad Night by getting the golf clubs out because they are looking for sponsors, friends, family and community members to hit Thunder Canyon Country Club for a round of golf and lunch to help keep our grads safe once again.

PROM DRESS UPDATE
I received an e-mail from Dianne Solinger because her daughter, a Carson High senior this year, wanted to provide a young lady the opportunity of having a beautiful dress for prom. The number last week regarding the donation of items for prom is actually the main line and it takes awhile to get somewhere.
Thanks once again to Shelia Story and the amazing nurses who allow the dresses to be stored in the nurses' office. This allows any girl wishing to try on a dress to do so in private. Again, we really need your help if you have dresses, nylons, shoes, hair certificates and other items suitable for wearing to a prom. Brenda Collings, who is helping with the golf tourney above, provided a free hairdo for a girl when I couldn't find anyone to help.
Each senior deserves a memorable night and times are hard for everyone, but helping make a memory " which will never be forgotten " is what makes you smile inside knowing you made the difference.
