On Wednesday March 25, 2009 Kay Wayland of Sebastopol, Calif. formerly of Carson City, left this world after a short illness. She was 76 years old.
A much loved mother, friend and chef she will be greatly missed.
She was born July 16, 1932 in Omaha, Neb. As a young woman, she spent some time in New York City but eventually settled in California where she met the love of her life, David Wayland, in the 1950s. They were married for 42 years and raised three children. In middle age, after her children were grown, she started work as a secretary with the California startup software company, Broderbund, eventually working her way up to product manager. She was very proud of her success in the business world. She had a passion for fine food, and as a true "foodie," she collected countless cook books, reading them, she said, "like novels." Her friends and family often enjoyed her wonderful creations. She was a kind, generous, loving person who delighted in the success of others.
She is survived by daughter Susan Wayland of Petaluma, Calif.; sons Scott Wayland of Tehachapi, Calif. and Jeff Wayland of Greenbrae, Calif.; granddaughter Jennifer Bull of Petaluma, Calif. and brother Jack Huffaker of Whittier, Calif.
