WASHINGTON (AP) " Nevada's congressional delegation is pushing legislation to transfer nearly 2,400 acres of land from the federal government to the state's System of Higher Education.

The land would allow for the expansion of three campuses in southern Nevada. UNLV would receive 2,000 acres in North Las Vegas near Nellis Air Force Base, the College of Southern Nevada would receive 40 acres in Las Vegas, and the Great Basin College would get 280 acres in Pahrump, according to a statement from Sens. Harry Reid and John Ensign, and Reps. Shelley Berkley, Dina Titus and Dean Heller.

The bill makes no provision to compensate the Interior Department for the land. The lawmakers sponsored a similar bill last year.
