Dr. Robert S. "Doc" Miller, 80, of Topaz Lake, Nev., died peacefully Saturday April 25, 2009 at Renown Medical Center with his daughters by his side. Doc Miller is best known as the beloved long time veterinarian in Yerington.
A native of Sharon, Pa., he was born Aug. 20, 1928. Dr. Miller received his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Washington State University in 1961 and moved to Yerington in 1966 to become the beloved "small town country vet". Doc retired from his veterinary practice in 1992 and moved to Topaz Lake, where he served as a volunteer firefighter for over 10 years. Doc always lived life to its fullest and was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying fishing, skiing, hunting and backpacking.
Surviving are daughters Holly Bromley and Leslie Lyles of Reno (and their husbands Richard and Brad), son Mark of South Lake Tahoe and seven grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be 2 p.m., Saturday, May 9, at the Vineyard Fellowship Church in Yerington. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the Yerington Animal Protection Society (YAPS, P.O. Box 14, Yerington, NV 89447) to honor their father's life's work - caring for animals.
