FALLON " The Carson Senators maintained their grip on first place with a pair of one-run wins Saturday over Fallon.

Carson won the opener, 7-6, and the second game, 6-5. Tyler Hutchins picked up the win in the first game and David Charles was the winner in the second. David Perce earned saves in both contests.

"We'll take it," Carson coach Cody Farnworth said. "We came out a little flat, but like I told the kids, it's ugly but it's a win, and it keeps us in first place for next week."

Carson came from behind to win the first game. The Senators built an early 2-0 lead, scoring single runs in the first and second innings. Valley stole second and moved to third on a passed ball before Thomas Preston drove him home in the first. In the second Cody Barr doubled and scored on a Matt Rutledge single.

Fallon responded with two runs in the second inning and one each in the third and fourth for a 4-2 lead. Carson regained the lead in the sixth when Barr doubled to score Preston, then Dustin Buttner slammed a two-run home run for a 5-4 Senator advantage.

Carson scored two more in the seventh, and those insurance runs were vital. Valley singled to plate Tyler Smith, then Preston singled to bring Valley home for a 7-4 lead. Fallon made it close with two runs in the bottom of the inning, but Perce came in with two away to get the out.

Carson led all the way in the second game, sandwiching four runs in the first inning and two in the third around two Fallon runs in the second for a 5-2 lead. Triples by Valley and Buttner, doubles from Preston and Rutledge and a single by Kyle Stone accounted for the first inning runs.

Rutledge add a solo blast in the fourth. In the seventh, Rutledge singled, stole second, then scored on Stone's single.
