In conjunction with National Police Memorial Week May 10-16, the 10th Annual Nevada Law Enforcement Officer's Memorial Run will make its way into Carson City on Wednesday.
The 104-segment run began in Las Vegas on April 30 and will incorporate members of law enforcement agencies from across the state.
On Wednesday at 7 a.m. runners will leave Wellington on State Route 208, running onto Highway 395 North through Gardnerville to Carson City.
The baton, containing the 104 names of Nevada Law Enforcement officer's who died in the line of duty, will be handed off to Carson City Sheriff's deputies at the Silver City RV Park in Minden.
Carson officers will then run the baton into the city and deliver it Thursday during the Nevada Peace Officer Memorial to the family of Mineral County Sheriff's Sgt. Richard L. Willson, whose name will be added to the Memorial this year.
Willson died of a heart attack on July 25, 1994 following a foot chase. After catching the suspect Willson was struck in the chest with a crowbar. He returned to headquarters and while doing the arrest paperwork he began to feel sick. He was taken to the hospital by another officer. He suffered a heart attack and died during a transfer to a second hospital, according to Officer Down Memorial Web site,
