The Nevada Women's History Project will celebrate Pink Tea, 2-4 p.m. Saturday, May 9 at the Governor's Mansion, 606 Mountain St.

The tea is in honor of those who worked to gain women the right to vote. It will also celebrate the 100th birthday of the Governor's Mansion.

In the 1920s women suffragist meetings were often disrupted. They began calling their meetings "teas" and decorating them in a pink theme.

The Nevada Women's History Project held its first Pink Tea in 2001 to raise funds for the Sarah Winnemucca statue project in Washington, D.C.

The event is limited to the first 75 persons. Enjoy a tour of the mansion and learn the history of the Pink Tea.

Cost is $30. Checks should be made out to the Nevada Women's History Project and mailed to Marcia Cuccaro, 1005 W. Sunset Way, Carson City, NV 89703. Period dress is welcome. For information, call 883-1454 or 888-9867.

'Nationally known Tibetan Bowl Sound Healer, recording artist and author Diane Mandle returns to Carson City with "Sarasvati's Dream: A Tapestry of Harmonics and Light.

The healing, sensory experience will be at 7 p.m. on Saturday at Kula, Kula, Kula, located at 343 Fairview Drive Suite 204.

Mandle, from Leucadia, Calif., uses light and sound to tap into an individual's sensory experience and create an elevated state of healing and meditation during her concerts. They feature precision tuned Tibetan bowls, bells, planetary gongs and other vibrational instruments creating a "tonal bath."

Carson Valley historian Bob Ellison tells the story of how Jacks Valley was named, 7 p.m. May 14, at the Carson Valley Museum and Cultural Center.

The free lecture series is sponsored by the Douglas County Historical Society the second Thursday of the month.

The museum, located at 1477 Highway 395 in Gardnerville, and the Main Street Book Store will be open before and after the one-hour lecture. For more information, call 782-2555.

The vibrant silk paintings of Louise Noel Howes are on display through May at the Backseat Gallery inside Comma Coffee and co sponsored by zArtist.com.

Howes' exhibit, "Where The Wild Things Are," is inspired by soaring birds, running horses and cascading flowers. The showing of original paintings and limited edition giclee prints, explore the whimsy and wonder of nature in brilliant color.

Howes as been a resident of the region for nearly 40 years and is influenced by the grandeur of the east slope of the Sierra.

The Backseat Gallery and Comma Coffee are located at 312 South Carson Street, across from the Legislative Building.

Virginia City, will be celebrating the 150-year discovery of the Comstock Lode on June 5-7 with numerous events and celebrations.

Piper's Opera House, constructed in 1885, was one of the premiere theatres in the Western United States during its heyday. In honor of the sesquicentennial, Piper's presents a program dedicated to the burlesque and vaudeville American tradition.

"A Handful of Nickels" presents naughty, but hilarious comedy skits and music from 19th and 20th century vaudeville and burlesque on June 5-7 at Piper's. Showtimes at are 7 p.m. on June 5, 6 and at 2 p.m. on the June 7.

The show features special guest Yve Evans, named Monterey Jazz Festival's musician of the year in 2008. Evans portrays blues great Bessie Smith with her rendition of "If You Don't, I Know Who Will." Comedy team Jeanette Knight and Michael Seneca, named Showtime TV's funniest duo in 1984, perform a tribute to George Burns and Gracie Allen.

Tickets are $12 in advance, $15 at the door. Some material may not be suitable for children.

The historic Piper's Opera House is located at B and Union Streets, Virginia City.

Vendors, sponsors and cars are needed for the ninth annual Big Mama's Show & Shine Classic Car Show in Lampe Park on Saturday.

The event of crafts, food, music and classic cars is organized by Douglas County Senior Services as a fundraiser for the Meals On Wheels program that delivers meals to homebound seniors. This year it is expected that more than 29,000 meals will be delivered to Meals On Wheels clients in Douglas County.
