The 10th annual Nevada Law Enforcement Officer's Memorial Run will make its way into Carson City this afternoon.
The 104-segment run began April 30 in Las Vegas and will incorporate members of law enforcement agencies from across the state.
Runners will leave Wellington at
7 a.m. today for the 45- mile run on State Route 208 then U.S. 395 through Gardnerville and Minden and into Carson City.
A baton, containing the 104 names of Nevada law enforcement officers who have died in the line of duty, will be handed off to members of the Carson City Sheriff's SWAT team at the Silver City RV Park in Minden.
The runners will be followed by a SWAT vehicle and marked patrol units to control traffic. Motorists can expect slower speeds in the area of the runners.
Carson officers then will run the baton into the city and deliver it Thursday during the memorial ceremony to the family of Mineral County Sheriff's Sgt. Richard L. Willson. Willson died of a heart attack on July 25, 1994, after a foot chase.
Nevada's observation is in conjunction with National Police Memorial Week May 10-16.
