Two minors in Carson City have been infected with swine flu, according to Carson City hall.
The Nevada State Health Lab today confirmed the first two cases of the virus also known as the H1N1 flu, the city said in a statement.
One of the minors is a Carson City School District student, according to the city.
Both minors have recovered from their minor cases of the flu, the city said.
"The Carson City School District and Carson City Health and Human Services are working closely together to monitor the situation," the city said.
The agencies are watching illness and absences in the school district, the city said. No school will close under the advice from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, according to the city.
Health Director Marena Works declined to name the minors, ages or the school of the Carson student. She said the health department won't release the names of minors because of privacy concerns.
She said neither minor was hospitalized.
The swine flu is a new flu, but people should be careful not to overreact to reports, she said.
"This isn't any more severe than the seasonal flu," Works said.
School Superintendent Richard Stokes could not be immediately reached for comment.
Five other cases of the flu have been confirmed in Nevada since the first case was reported in the state April 29. Nationwide, 642 cases have been confirmed since the flu was confirmed in the country. Two people in Texas have died from the virus.
