Chinese exodus - Thirty Chinese men left on the train bound for the Sandwich Islands to work on sugar plantations. All were coolies and the debasing bondage in which they are kept was discernible in every movement.

Failure of delivery - John Moore, the Appeal carrier, was thrown from his bicycle while crossing the railroad track each of town. The wound will lay him up for a few days. The indulgence of the patrons of the Appeal is asked.

Kidnapped - George Palmer Putnam, widower of Amelia Earhart was kidnapped and taken to Bakersfield and left gagged. Putnam said the abductors were two men who spoke German. Putnam believes he was kidnapped as a warning - his firm is publishing a book called "The Man Who Killed Hitler."
