RENO " John Hester doubled twice and finished with three hits, but the Fresno Grizzlies used three home runs to knock-off the Reno Aces, 8-5, Saturday afternoon at Aces Ballpark.
The two teams traded runs in the early going, with Fresno taking a slim one-run lead into the sixth. Over the next three innings, though, the Grizzlies would score four times to take a lead they wouldn't let slide. Fresno homers in the first, third and eighth innings accounted for six of the Grizzlies' eight runs.
Hester finished 3-for-4 with two doubles, while Alex Romero collected three hits, two RBI and a run scored"including a solo home run in the fourth.
Reno starter Cesar Valdez (1-3) took the loss, allowing four runs"three earned"on four hits over five innings pitched. Valdez struck out four and didn't issue a free pass.
For the Grizzlies, the win went to starter Ryan Sadowski (3-1), who scattered three runs on eight hits over six innings pitched. Patrick Misch (1) came on in relief and recorded a three-inning save for Fresno.
The series continues tomorrow with a special Mother's Day edition of Aces Baseball. The Aces will wear special pink jerseys, which will be sold in a silent auction during the game. Proceeds will benefit the American Cancer Society. First pitch is set for 1:05 p.m. Reno will send RHP Tony Barnette (2-2, 5.10 ERA) to the bump, while Fresno counters with LHP Steve Hammond (1-2, 5.79 ERA).
