Tax dollars well spent
Congratulations to all those involved in the Carson High School senior class projects. What a wonderful learning experience for the students.
As first-time judges, my husband and I were very impressed with the whole process. The students' projects were a successful culmination of four years of education.
Every high school should have this program. Our tax dollar is well spent at Carson High.

Our house deserves our name on the building
Our house should have our name on it. The faculty and coaches try to instill pride in their students and teams, pride in their school, in their community and by extension, pride in themselves.
When our baseball team looks at our scoreboard it should see the name of its school and know it's playing for Senator Pride. Why not poll the student body for their thoughts? This might be a great senior class project.
I, and I venture to say, many others who support Carson High would be happy to contribute toward the cost of putting the right name on Carson's baseball park.

Elephants and conservatives: This is your wake up call
Are you listening conservatives and Republicans?
In a recent letter, Richard J. Mundy of Las Vegas says we should just roll over and die because "Republicans have no traction in a democratically controlled Congress." The other option, according to Mr. Mundy, is to vote in a Democrat; who we know will do "all" things conservatives and Republicans are already in disagreement with.
So ... elephants and conservatives ... is this our wake up call? Are we ready to roll over and let the "donkeys" run all over us or are we ready to fight for 2010, 2012 and beyond?

It's not OK to insult hard-working state employees
This is in response to a recent letter to the editor (Problem: Solution) by John Margolin. Apparently, he must be very disgruntled if he thinks that the real solution to our budget deficit is to start cutting state employees' salaries.
First of all, he could not possibly comprehend what it feels like to even be a state employee. And, second, most state employees do work their tails off. They care very much about satisfying customers' and clients' needs on a daily basis.
Yes, our state is in trying times, and we will have to accept whatever the lawmakers decide before session ends. But that does not make it OK for Mr. Margolin to insult a person just because he (or she) is a state employee. That man needs to grow up.

Gov. Gibbons destroying what Gov. Guinn built
Total insanity, to me, means how can so many people throw so much at one person from so many directions and he still dodges everything but his own agenda. (Dodge ball was so much more fun when I was a kid.)
The governor won't accept that someone else has an alternative that works. The governor claims that he is the only one being fiscally responsible. That's a joke. Cutting essential state services is the only thing that is killing our state.
We might as well start buying the bus tickets for all of the teachers, college students, police officers and firemen who will evacuate this state. Our education system couldn't get any worse if you closed the doors, and Nevada is too broke to afford public safety and firefighters.
The Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings movies didn't have this much fantasy life in them. While the governor insists on cutting the last drop from state services, he continues to blame the legislators who just don't want the patient (Nevada) to die from blood loss.
And what about the frozen positions in his office? I wish I could have a topped-out $54,000 state job, and take home more than $98,000. Or maybe I could find work as a Deputy Director of Corrections pay of $112,000. Gibbons' agenda has always included privatization (hello, welfare? Hello?). The governor is trying to destroy what Kenny Guinn built up.
