Washoe County Sheriff's officials have yet to release the names today of those involved in a deadly shooting on Highway 395 in Washoe Valley near the Carson City/Washoe County borders.

About 12:35 p.m. Sunday afternoon, a 17-year-old Carson City teen was shot and killed along the highway, his body left lying in the dirt shoulder of the northbound lanes between Bellevue Road and Eastlake Boulevard.

It has not been revealed whether he was the passenger in a vehicle or the driver.

A passerby saw the body and pulled over past it to investigate, when the shooter drove by and fired at the good Samaritan, striking him in the leg.

The surviving victim from Carson City was able to give a description of a vehicle and officers spotted the sedan on Old 395 in the area of Bellevue Road.

Keast said a short chase ensued, and the suspect wrecked into a brush-filled ditch and fled on foot.

He was found by a Washoe County deputy and K9, naked and hiding in brush behind a home off Bellevue. Officers say he left a trail of clothing and hundreds in cash as he ran.

The surviving victim was taken by ambulance to a Reno hospital. His condition is unknown, but Keast did not believe the injuries were life-threatening.

The shooting suspect has not been identified, nor has the murder victim.

Carson City investigators were assisting Washoe County detectives in the city and were looking for a man believed to be have been involved in a shooting here about five years ago.

The vehicle the suspect fled from was registered to an address on Woodside Drive. The registered owner was contacted at home and is not believed to be involved.

A room at the Gold Dust West Casino was searched Sunday night after investigators were led there. A Los Angeles woman who was in the room with two children was taken in for questioning.

Keast said the name of the suspect will not be released until his identity is confirmed. She said he allegedly gave police several names, which is causing the delay.
