Smoked out " A report comes from the north end of the country that the party of Eastern stockholders of the Whalen Copper Company, consisting of Messrs. Muma, Sayers, Stephens and Murphy who left Eureka met with an interesting experience. They desired to visit their copper mines at Alpha, but Mr. Whalen was on guard and preferred that they should "move on," Discussion of this sort was not considered sufficient so he proceeded to light a few sticks of giant powder and place them conveniently around in the various shafts and tunnels, the smoke soon making it a matter of absolute impossibility for the visitors to enter. A couple of Indians assisted in the fire works. Mr. Whalen's reason for refusing admittance has not been reported. " Eureka Sentinel.

The fly-up of Brownie Troop 38 was held at the Episcopal Church. The program was opened by prayer with Rev. Andrew Daughters. Those invested were Dana Austin, Donna Baker, Luana Brewer, Helen Eiche, Ann Hagland, Sharon Herron, Lea LaGrange.

The Comstock Silver Tea event at the Fourth Ward School was renamed the Carol Morgan Page Silver Tea. Page died in March 1996 before the school was renovated " after she had fought to restore and reopen the closed-down 1875 school.
