Tougher child custody law signed

Gov. Jim Gibbons has signed AB59 which makes it tougher for parents to get custody or unsupervised visits with their child if they have a history of abducting a child.

Attorney General Catherine Cortez Masto sponsored the bill, which was approved unanimously by the Senate and Assembly.

Under Nevada law, child custody determinations are supposed to follow the best interests of the child. The legal presumption is in favor of joint custody.
