School closes; 6 new swine cases in Washoe County

RENO " Health officials in Reno are closing a middle school in neighboring Sparks through the Memorial Day weekend after confirming five new cases of students with swine flu.

The five are among new cases the Washoe County District Health Department confirmed Wednesday, pushing Nevada's total to 38.

Washoe County District Health Department spokeswoman Judy Davis says Mendive Middle School near Reed High School will reopen on Tuesday " the day after Memorial Day.

She said it's the "best course of action" to prevent further spread of the flu.

State health Martha Framsted says there's now 25 confirmed cases in Clark County, 10 in Washoe, two in Carson City and one in Lyon County. Two additional unconfirmed cases are considered probable.
