Mr. and Mrs. B. F. Smail, who were proprietors of the Arlington House in Carson in 1880, gave a reception to 800 of their friends. The occasion was Mrs. Smail's birthday and she was presented with a sunflower badge and a beautiful floral piece from the Ladies Aid Society.
