The Western Nevada baseball team defeated Middle Georgia 11-6 Monday to advance in the JUCO World Series in Grand Junction, Colo.
The Wildcats broke a 3-3 tie going into the bottom half of the fifth inning on a Mike Long RBI-single and Jerome Pena's two-RBI triple. They took a 6-3 lead and never trailed again.
Brian Barnett went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored, and Pena went 2-for-5 with three RBIs.
Josh Moody picked up the win in 5.1 innings pitched. He struck out three and walked one.
Jake Waardenburg got the save after he got Ross Smith to line out to short with the bases loaded in the ninth for the final out of the game. Smith was the only batter he faced.
The Wildcats will play their next game in the series at 2 p.m. Tuesday against the loser of Howard-Shelton State.
