Guide and hike leader training

The Tahoe Rim Trail association will offer a three-day regional Guide & Hike Leader Training today through Sunday. For those interested in being a guide for the Tahoe Rim Trail Association or another organization. Cost is $145 for all three days. Go to www.tahoerimtrail.com.

Ribbon cutting, races planned for Mexican Ditch Trail

The public is invited to celebrate the installation of two new bridges and the connection of the Mexican Ditch Trail on June 13, National Trails Day.

The ribbon cutting is at 9 a.m. at the south bridge. Races for 5k and a 1-mile-walk kids run begin at 9:15 a.m.

To register for the races go to Fleet Feet Sports in Carson City. Cost is $10 to receive a race bib and T-shirt, or free to race without. For more information, call 883-3361.

Trails hike-a-thon in Genoa

The Hike for Health Hike-a-Thon fundraiser for the Genoa Foothill Trail System features Saturday hikes sponsored by Carson Valley Trails Association through June 6. Go to www.carsonvalley trails.org or 775-721-5847.

Bighorns join Relay for Life

The Western Nevada College Nevada Bighorns Baseball will support The American Cancer Society Relay of Life on Saturday.

Bighorn staff and players will wear special Relay for Life T-shirts during their matchup at 12:30 p.m. at the WNC baseball field. The first 100 fans also will get free T-shirts.

All proceeds benefit the Relay for Life of Carson City. For more information, contact Dennis Young at 775-721-3024.

The 2009 Relay for Life will be on July 18 at Centennial Park. The theme is "Kicking Cancer off the Globe." Besides the relay itself, the event includes a variety of entertainment, competitions and refreshments.

Kids' fishing derby

The Douglas County 20th annual Kids' Fishing Derby is June 6-7 at Lampe Park. Children 3-12 are welcome to participate in the free event.

Registration forms are available at the Douglas County Parks & Recreation Department. There are seven sessions including a special needs session June 6.

Swim for Molly

The Carson Valley Swim Center is hosting an after-hours swim and dinner 6:30-8:30 p.m. S a t u r d a y at the Minden center to benefit the family of Molly Lahlum, a team member who died April 23.

A barbecue dinner will be served for $6 per person. Admission to the pool will be by donation.

A free children's tennis clinic will be offered Sunday, June 7 for ages 8 and up, 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at Zephyr Cove Park.

Fleet Feet Sports hosts a weekly Beer Run on Tuesdays.
