The first swine flu case in a Carson City adult has been confirmed.
The 22-year-old adult is home receiving treatment, said City Health Director Marena Works. The adult has not been hospitalized, she said.
This is the fourth case of the H1N1 virus in Carson City.
Two cases in children were confirmed May 6. A third child was hospitalized with the virus last week. The child has been released, Works said.
"(The adult) is doing well really," she said. "It's a pretty mild case."
The symptoms of the swine flu are similar to regular seasonal flu.
Nevada has 92 confirmed cases of swine flu, according to Martha Framsted of the Nevada State Health Division. Washoe County has 58 cases, Clark County has 29, Carson City has four and Lyon County has one. There have been no deaths.
Framsted said more cases might have been reported in Washoe County than larger Clark County because Northern Nevada tends to test even mild cases for the H1N1 virus. Southern Nevada tends to test cases only if a patient is severely ill, she said.
Not everyone who might have the virus goes to the doctor, she said.
"They feel kind of puny. They stay home. They get better," she said.
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports 7,927 cases of the virus in 48 states, with 11 deaths.
