Protest planned today for budget veto

Democratic organizations including Capital City Democrats have scheduled a protest at noon today on the steps of the Legislature to call for legislative override of Gov. Jim Gibbons' veto of the state budget and tax bills.

Organizers say the governor's version of the budget, which would become effective if legislators aren't able to muster an override, would drastically cut education, health care and state employee salaries.

A joint protest is scheduled for the same time in Las Vegas.

TEA Party protest today at Legislature

In a followup to the nationwide protests against taxes and spending last month, a group of Northern Nevada residents have organized a Tax Freedom Day event in front of the Nevada Legis-lature from 3-6 p.m. today.

Organizers are planning a peaceful protest against increasing taxes and spending at the local, state and national level. For more information, see www.
