PHOENIX (AP) " The Arizona Diamondbacks have placed first baseman Chad Tracy on the 15-day disabled list with an oblique strain and recalled Josh Whitesell from Triple-A Reno to take his roster spot.
Manager A.J. Hinch said on Saturday before Arizona's game with Atlanta that Tracy was injured when he singled in his final at-bat in Friday night's 10-6 loss to the Braves. He had three hits in the game, including a three-run homer, to boost his average to .203 with four home runs and 17 RBIs.
Hinch said Tracy had the same injury in 2007.
Whitesell hit .115 (3 for 26) in an earlier stint with Arizona. The first baseman was batting .342 for Reno.
Tracy's injury means more time at first for Mark Reynolds, with either Augie Ojeda or Ryan Roberts taking Reynolds' spot at third.
