Empire Elementary School's Even Start Pre-K class of 42 students celebrated graduation May 20.
The Pre-K has been funded by both federal Even Start and state Early Childhood Education grants. The Even Start grant has been cut from the budget after 14 years and the program will no longer serve families in Carson City effective June 5.
The Pre-K will continue to operate under the ECE grant at Empire with morning and afternoon classes with 21 students each, Monday through Thursday.
