MLB roundup: Rangers take 2 over Oakland

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) " Scott Feldman allowed five hits over six innings, and the Texas Rangers beat Oakland 5-2 to complete a doubleheader sweep Friday night.

In the first game, Andruw Jones hit a tiebreaking two-run homer in the eighth to send Texas to a 6-3 victory.

Feldman (4-0) gave up two runs, struck out two and walked three to help the Rangers win for the sixth time in eight games. C.J. Wilson worked the ninth for his fourth save. Wilson (2-2) won the opener, pitching a perfect eighth.

In the opener, Frank Francisco pitched the ninth for his 11th save and 16th in a row over the last two seasons. Marlon Byrd also homered for Texas.

Santiago Casilla (1-2) was the loser for Oakland in the first game.

Yankees 3, Indians 1

CLEVELAND (AP) " Andy Pettitte pitched five scoreless innings before leaving because of a stiff back in the sixth, and New York took the AL East lead and ended Cleveland's season-high, four-game winning streak.

The Yankees have won 13 of 17 since May 13.

Mariano Rivera pitched the ninth for his 10th save in 11 chances. It was the 58th time he saved a win for Pettitte. That's the most for a pitching combo since the save became an official stat in 1969, according to the Elias Sports Bureau. Hall of Famer Dennis Eckersley saved 57 wins by Bob Welch for Oakland.

Pettitte (5-1) allowed six hits before leaving with two runners on and none out in the sixth. Cliff Lee (2-6) was the loser.

Orioles 7, Tigers 2

BALTIMORE (AP) " Luke Scott extended his recent power surge with a grand slam and a solo shot off Dontrelle Willis (1-2), and rookie Brad Bergesen (2-2) allowed two runs and seven hits over eight-plus innings for Baltimore.

Many in the crowd of 42,704 came to see the major league debut of Baltimore catcher Matt Wieters, who went 0 for 4. That might have been the only negative for the Orioles, who stretched their season-high winning streak to five games.

Since coming off the 15-day disabled list on Wednesday, Scott has five home runs and 12 RBIs in three games. His second consecutive two-homer game included his first grand slam, a third-inning shot that put Baltimore up 5-0.

Blue Jays 6, Red Sox 3

TORONTO (AP) " Scott Rolen and Rod Barajas each had two RBIs, right-hander Casey Janssen won for the first time in more than two years and Toronto beat Boston to snap a nine-game losing streak.

The Blue Jays returned home after losing all nine games on a three-city trip to Boston, Atlanta and Baltimore that dropped them from first to third in the AL East. Toronto won its fifth straight at Rogers Centre, where it is 17-6 overall.

Janssen (1-1), who missed last season after shoulder surgery, started for the second time since being called up from Triple-A Las Vegas.

Scott Downs finished for his sixth save.

J.D. Drew homered for Boston. Tim Wakefield (6-3) was the loser.

Mariners 5, Angels 2

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) " Jason Vargas allowed two runs on four hits in 6 1-3 innings and Seattle's anemic offense got to John Lackey early.

The Mariners, coming off a 6-1 victory in Oakland, have won consecutive games for the first time since beating Los Angeles on April 24-25.

Vargas improved to 2-0, and Lackey dropped to 1-1.

Seattle's Ichiro Suzuki was 2 for 5 with an RBI single and extended his hitting streak to 22 games " the third-longest of his big league career.

David Aardsma got three outs in the ninth for his seventh save.

Angels left fielder Juan Rivera was 3 for 4 with a home run in the fifth inning and robbed Russell Branyan of a home run in the eighth " two pitches before Jose Lopez lofted his fourth home run just beyond Rivera's reach.

Rays 5, Twins 3

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) " Evan Longoria and Carl Crawford homered, helping Tampa Bay end a season-high, five-game losing streak.

James Shields (4-4) allowed two runs and seven hits in seven-plus innings to get his first win since May 3. The right-hander gave up a solo homer to Michael Cuddyer in the sixth and a second run that scored on Justin Morneau's RBI double off reliever J.P Howell in the eighth. Randy Choate pitched the ninth for his first major league save.

Longoria boosted his major league-leading RBI total to 54 with his three-run homer off Scott Baker (2-6), snapping a 1-1 tie in the sixth. Minnesota's Joe Mauer had a single, double and triple to boost his average to .417.

White Sox 11, Royals 2

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) " Jermaine Dye's first-inning homer ignited a 17-hit attack and Chicago trounced reeling Kansas City.

Everyone in Chicago's starting lineup had at least one hit and scored at least one run. Everybody drove in a run except Brian Anderson and Jim Thome " who has 1,514 career RBIs. Alexei Ramirez, A.J. Pierzynski and Josh Fields each had three hits.

Clayton Richard (2-0) went seven innings for his second straight victory. He gave up six hits, including Billy Butler's two-run homer, walked only one and struck out seven. Brian Bannister (4-2) was the loser.

NEW YORK (AP) " Omir Santos homerd in the fitth and singled in the winning run in the 11th inning in the New York Mets' 2-1 victory over Florida on Friday night.

Gary Sheffield led off the 11th with a single to left off Brian Sanches (1-1), who threw over to first several times to check on the aging slugger with David Wright up. After Wright struck out " smashing his bat when he reached the dugout " Sheffield stole second and went to third when Ronny Paulino's throw went into center field.

Fernando Tatis was hit by a pitch before Santos dumped Sanches' first pitch into left field to give New York its fourth consecutive win and sixth in seven games.

Pedro Feliciano (2-1) got one out to earn the win.

Cubs 2, Dodgers 1

CHICAGO (AP) " Koyie Hill homered and Kosuke Fukudome hit a tiebreaking sacrifice fly in the seventh inning for Chicago.

Chicago's Ted Lilly (6-4) and Los Angeles' Chad Billingsley (6-3) each opened with six scoreless innings.

Matt Kemp homered with two outs in the top of the seventh for the Dodgers. The Cubs bounced back in the bottom half and ended Los Angeles' four-game winning streak.

Kevin Gregg pitched the ninth, and held on for his eighth save in nine chances.

Phillies 5, Nationals 4

PHILADELPHIA (AP) " Shane Victorino had four hits and Philadelphia tied a season high with 16 hits.

Jimmy Rollins had two hits and two RBIs, Raul Ibanez, Jayson Werth, Pedro Feliz and Carlos Ruiz also each had two hits, and every Philadelphia position starter had at least one. The Phillies stranded 13 runners.

J.A. Happ (3-0) was the winner, and Brad Lidge pitched a scoreless ninth for his 10th save. Ross Detwiler (0-1) took the loss.

Rockies 3, Padres 0

DENVER (AP) " Jason Marquis pitched eight sharp innings, making Jim Tracy's debut as Colorado's manager a success.

Tracy was promoted to interim manager Friday following the firing of Clint Hurdle, who had been in charge of the Rockies since three weeks into the 2002 season.

Behind a six-hit performance from Marquis, the Rockies snapped a three-game skid. Marquis (7-3) struck out a season-high six and walked four to pick up his third straight win. Huston Street pitched a perfect ninth for his eighth save.

Chris Young (4-3) took the loss.

Brewers 3, Reds 2

MILWAUKEE (AP) " Corey Hart and Prince Fielder homered and Braden Looper (5-3) outpitched Johnny Cueto to help Milwaukee snap Cincinnati's winning streak at four.

The Brewers, who had hit .204 with just two homers while going 1-5 in their last six games, only had three hits, but two of them left the ballpark. Hart's go-ahead homer came in the seventh inning came after Fielder hit a two-run shot in the first.

Ramon Hernandez hit a two-run homer for the Reds in the fourth.

Trevor Hoffman allowed a two-out single, but recorded his 12th consecutive save since joining the Brewers. Cueto dropped to 4-3.

Astros 6, Pirates 1

PITTSBURGH (AP) " Brian Moehler pitched his first complete game in nearly nine years, and rookie Edwin Maysonet homered while going 4 for 4 and driving in four runs, helping Houston end a seven-game losing streak.

Moehler (2-3), who had a 27.00 ERA in his two most recent starts in PNC Park, was two outs away from his first shutout in almost 10 years, or since Aug. 30, 1999, until the Pirates scored on Jason Jaromillo's run-scoring grounder in the ninth.

Ross Ohlendorf (5-5) was the loser.

Braves 10, Diamondbacks 6

PHOENIX (AP) " Yunel Escobar hit a three-run homer, Jair Jurrjens doubled home two runs and Atlanta snapped a four-game losing streak.

Escobar's shot off Jon Garland (4-4) capped a five-run third inning and gave the Braves a 10-1 lead. Arizona pulled to 10-5 two innings later, chasing Jurrjens (5-2) after five innings. He allowed a season-high five runs on eight hits.

Chad Tracy had three hits, including a homer, and drove in four runs for Arizona.

Giants 4, Cardinals 2

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) " Matt Cain pitched six-hit ball into the seventh inning, and Pablo Sandoval drove in a pair of runs in San Francisco's fourth win.

Cain (6-1) gave up two runs " one earned " on six hits in 6 1-3 innings. Brian Wilson pitched the ninth for his 11th save. Joel Pineiro (5-5) was the loser.
