130 years ago

Last evening a number of boys, who live in the neighborhood of Spear and Elizabeth streets, got possession of an unbroken bucking horse and after much trouble managed to saddle it " but before it was safe to mount the animal the boys thought it wise to blindfold it. Other youths watched the event, waiting for the effect an attempt would have upon the mounter. Many of the youths tried the horse until Frank Ingersoll came along. His chums being of a generous stamp, gave him the saddle, but they, at the same time, took the handkerchief from the horse's eyes. It wasn't long before Frank was lying on the ground.

Nina Anderson, the 2-year-old daughter of E. A. Anderson, was drowned in Reno's North Truckee ditch yesterday noon before a huge shepherd dog, which jumped into the swift current after the child, could rescue it. The large shepherd dog was playing with the children when the child fell into the ditch. Realizing the seriousness of the situation, the animal made a rush for the body. Following the progress by the side of the ditch opposite where the body was being carried, the dog with one bound, jumped into the stream and grasped the clothing of the child by its teeth and swam to the bank. When the little girl was taken into the arms of its grief-stricken mother it was lifeless. " Journal

Some Carson residents have been asking questions prompted by the record displays of beautiful flowers on graves in the cemetery and the unusual amount of care and attention that obviously has been bestowed by loving hands on plots in the city of the dead.

Nature study was the topic highlighting a recent meeting of Brownie troop 135. Books on wildflowers were discussed by members. For their Mother's Day activity, the girls made flannel-felt needle books.

Amber Andreason, Mark Redican and Veronica Spurlock are finalists for the "Outstanding Teenager of the Year Award" to be given this week by the Carson City Chamber of Commerce.

The Nevada Legislature ended its session in one hour less than the constitutional limit of 120 days Monday.
