SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - The Bay Area Rapid Transit Agency will provide 24-hour train service because of the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge closure.

BART announced the plans Saturday afternoon because the state Transportation Department could not say whether the bridge would reopen later in the evening. It is still unclear if the span will reopen for the Monday morning commute.

BART officials say trains would run hourly to 14 stations - service usually ends around midnight.

The bridge was closed after two rods and a crossbar broke during the Tuesday evening rush hour, sending 5,000 pounds of steel crashing into traffic lanes.
