A smart one: A 10 year old boy of this city was puzzling his brain as to how he could secure an autograph from General Grant and wrote out a short but warm address of welcome, signing it "From the boys of Carson" carefully putting it into an envelope ... He delivered it to the Governor's residence and when told at the door that the servant would deliver it, the boy said "no" that he had to give it to General Grant in person. When Grant came to the door, the boy asked him to autograph receipt of the letter. Grant signed the autograph unsuspectingly ... not knowing how happy he was making the young autograph hunter.

Edison phonograph: The Appeal office has the only compositor in the United States who can set matter as fast as a man can talk. When the machine speaks 10 or a dozen words, the compositor can press a lever with his foot and it stops talking ... by pressing the lever harder the machine goes back and repeats the language.

Nevada's Diamond Jubilee observance of Admission Day was most successful ever held in the state ... the parade started promptly ... 42,319 people came to Carson for the three-day celebration.

Thirty thousand Nevadans celebrated Nevada's 125th birthday. Among the entries were Wamma Jamma, the Boogie Man; Bertha, the Elephant; the Budweiser Clydesdale horses. The Grand Marshal was Roberts Laxalt.
