A calculator designed for racing teams by Carson City-based Calculated Industries took a runner-up prize at an automotive product trade show on Tuesday, a company spokesman said.
The company's "Hot Rod Calc" won the runner-up prize for best new performance and racing product at the Specialty Equipment Market Association convention in Las Vegas.
The calculator helps racing teams compute the amount of time it takes a race car to make a lap based on various engine strengths.
"These guys have to predict how they're going to run a race," said Mark Paulsen, the vice president of marketing for Calculated Industries. "This calculator has formulas built into it to take into account horse power and weight."
The SEMA Web site said the trade show attracted about 50,000 automotive industry buyers to its 2008 show.
