When Carson High hosts its second straight 4A football playoff game Friday (7 p.m. kickoff), it will see a familiar foe on the other sideline - the Galena Grizzlies.
Carson knocked off Galena 45-14 back on Oct.16, though it was a close game, 24-14, until the last eight minutes when the Senators score three times to make it a rout.
Roman said the short span between games will help preparation.
"It helps in the sense that we played them toward the end of the year," Carson coach Blair Roman said. "It also will help them. Everything will still be fresh. We'll be trying to figure out what kind of adjustments they might make, and I'm sure they will be trying to figure out adjustments that we might be thinking about. It is still going to come down to who executes the best and plays solid football.
"It was a tough game (the first time) no doubt about it. I have a great deal of respect for what they do over there. Galena has always done a good job of playing to their strengths."
When it comes to execution, one would be hard pressed to find anybody executing on either side of the ball better than Carson. The Senators are scoring 41.3 points a game and allowing just 11.5 points an outing.
Galena relies on three players for much of its offense - quarterback Beau Bickel, running back Eric Howsley and wide receiver Garrett Shutt.
Howsley runs the ball well and also is used often coming out of the backfield. Josh Peacock did a nice job against Shutt last time, and no doubt the Senators will use their senior cornerback on Shutt again.
