Christmas tree-cutting permits will be available from the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), Carson City District Office, and the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest.
The agencies conduct Christmas tree sales to thin small trees in overstocked areas and to provide recreational experiences for local residents.
BLM tree permits are currently available.
Forest Service permit sales will start November 23.
All stations will be closed on Thanksgiving Day, November 26.
Cutting permits for BLM pinyon pine trees are currently available for $5 each, primarily on forested BLM lands in the Pinenut Mountains between Carson City and Yerington, the Clan Alpine and Desatoya Mountains east of Fallon, and the Excelsior Mountains southeast of Hawthorne.
Maps and directions are available with permit purchase.
There is no limit on these BLM non-refundable permits.
Both the BLM-Nevada State Office in Reno and the BLM-Carson City District Office will accept phone credit card orders, or check/credit card mail orders.
Permits for BLM (pinyon pine) trees may be purchased at the following offices:

Approximately 4,000 permits will be available from the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest, beginning on Monday, November 23, and ending December 25 or until permits are sold out.
Cutting permits are issued on a first-come, first-served basis for $10 each in designated
cutting areas for white fir, incense cedar, Jeffrey and lodgepole pine trees.
Only two Forest Service trees may be cut per household, permits are non-refundable, and are valid through December 25, 2009.
Cutting areas include portions of Dog Valley, Spooner Summit, Markleeville, Woodfords, Hope Valley, and Wolf Creek.
Permits for Forest Service trees must be purchased in person with cash or checks (credit/ATM cards are not accepted) at the following locations:

Phone, mail, or e-mail permit requests cannot be processed.
In all cases tree cutters should have their own saws, warm clothing, a first-aid kit,
extra food and water, heavy rope or chain, shovel and tire chains, in the
event of bad road conditions or inclement weather.
Some cutting areas may be inaccessible after snowfall, so it is advisable to cut trees early in
the season.
