Smoke to continue tomorrow

The smoke from three controlled burns south of Lake Tahoe that wafted into Carson City Monday is expected to continue Tuesday, said Ray Collins, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Reno.

Winds blowing from the south to southwest should persist tomorrow, carrying smoke into the Eagle Valley, Collins said.

The controlled burns are expected to take a hiatus on Wednesday, which is Veterans Day and a state holiday, Collins said, so "hang in there for one more day."

By Thursday a low pressure system is expected to settle in the area, bringing high temperatures in the 40s and the possibility of rain or snow in the valley.
