Annual toy run collects donations for colony

More than 190 motorcycle riders packed with toys rode up Carson Street Sunday in the 24th annual Carson City Toy Run.

"This year was so great, everything went smooth, a fantastic turnout, lots of toys, and the Harley-Davidson shop was a perfect place for everyone to have a good time together," said co-organizer Rose Painter.

The riders started at the old Mervyn's shopping center and ended at the Carson City Harley-Davidson. The run was followed by a spaghetti feed, put on by JR Buckley and Bob Alvarado of Carson City.

Don Cassinelli, a member of the Branded Few Motorcycle Club and a 22-year organizer of the Toy Run, said, "We love doing this for these kids and families. We have great support from the bike community, even our ride pin says sponsored by riders and supported by riders."

Bob Dawg of Iron Nation Motorcycle Club and his wife Vanilla, owner of Bar USA in Reno, said, "We support the charities every time we get the chance. We have really good friends that have benefited by events such as this toy run in their time of need and they are greatly appreciative for all of the kindness and support."

The ride benefits the children of the Carson Indian Colony. Children up to age 11 receive the toys at the Indian Colony's annual Christmas dinner and party. Older children receive gift cards.

The toys also benefit the Washoe Tribal Foster Care program, Carson City Pregnancy and Crisis Center and families in need.
