Hurricanes 5, Wild 4

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - Jussi Jokinen and Michael Leighton helped Carolina end its winless streak at 14 games, leading the Hurricanes to a 5-4 shootout victory over the Minnesota Wild on Sunday.

The Hurricanes' second shooter in the tiebreaker, Jokinen went to his backhand and lofted the puck over Niklas Backstrom's glove. Leighton then stopped Marek Zidlicky on the Wild's final chance to give the Hurricanes their first win since Oct. 9.

Leighton made 28 saves in regulation and overtime, and Ray Whitney, Jokinen, Joe Corvo and Brandon Sutter scored in regulation for Carolina.

Robert Earl scored the first two goals of his career, John Scott added his first career goal and Antti Miettinen also scored for the Wild. Minnesota has never won in Carolina and is 2-10-1 on the road this season.

Blackhawks 4, Sharks 3, OT

CHICAGO (AP) - Brent Seabrook scored 41 seconds into overtime, lifting Chicago past NHL-leading San Jose for its seventh consecutive home victory.

The Blackhawks went 4-0 on a homestand that included games against the Western Conference's three top teams - San Jose, Colorado and Los Angeles. Chicago begins a six-game road trip Thursday night.

Despite the loss, the Sharks extended their streak of games with at least a point to 12 (9-0-3). San Jose hasn't had a regulation loss since Oct. 22 at Tampa Bay.

Brent Sopel, Patrick Kane and John Madden scored in regulation for Chicago. Dany Heatley scored his 14th goal to tie for the NHL lead, and Jason Demers and Patrick Marleau added goals for San Jose.

Thrashers 3, Oilers 2

ATLANTA (AP) - Slava Kozlov scored his first goal of the season and Atlanta beat Edmonton to improve to 10-6-1 with its fourth straight victory.

Kozlov, who had 26 goals last season, put the Thrashers in front with 8:01 left, converting a pass from Todd White. Maxim Afinogenov and Zach Bogosian also scored, and Johan Hedberg made 34 saves. Shawn Horcoff and Dustin Penner scored for Edmonton.
