Carson City's Arlington Square Ice Rink will open on Thanksgiving Day, giving skaters a chance to burn off some of the calories consumed at the holiday table.
"We are so excited to have the ice rink back for the second year. They're making ice right now," said Tammy Westergard, deputy manager for Carson City's Office of Business Development, on Wednesday.
"The winter foot traffic this generates for our downtown doesn't get any better for Carson City and it gives us a chance to visit and get to know one another," she said.
The OBD operated the rink last year at Arlington Square on Carson Street across from the Carson Nugget at the corner of Robinson and Curry streets.
But the Carson City Board of Supervisors approved a contract in September for the Parks and Recreation Depart-
ment to operate the facility awhile the OBD continues to provide marketing support.
The rink will offer special skate times and events throughout the season, which ends Jan. 16.
• Ice Disco is offered from 9-11 p.m. every Friday. Disco clothing is encouraged.
• After School Skate for elementary and middle school students is offered from 3-
5 p.m. Monday through Friday. A reduced admission cost of $4 includes skate rental and a hot beverage.
• Family Night rates are offered from 5-9 p.m. Mondays and Tuesdays at $4 per person, including skate rental. Must include one skating parent.
Free parking is available on the east side of Main Street directly across from the Arlington Square Ice Rink behind the Nugget, throughout all of the Nugget parking lots.
