Girl Scouts info meeting Thursday

Those interested in learning more about the Girl Scouts are invited to meet with leaders and other girls from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Thursday at Round Table Pizza in Carson City. Girl Scouts is open to girls ages 5-17.

The values "Discover, Connect, Take Action" expresses the way Girl Scouts builds leadership skills in girls.

Women voters to hold open house Thursday

The Northern Nevada League of Women Voters will host an open house open to all Northern Nevada residents 6:30-8 p.m. Thursday at 241 Heidi Circle in Carson City.

Come and meet area league members, learn about the work the league does, especially to educate the public about election issues and candidates. Learn how you can become a member and get involved with us. Refreshments will be served. This event is free and open to the public.

League membership is open to all men and women, and is a nonpartisan organization.

The Northern Nevada League of Women Voters provides voters with nonpartisan candidate and issue forums during and between elections.

Become involved, and help Northern Nevada become a place where people are educated about election issues and candidates; be a part of making of our democracy work.

Space available at WNC childcare center

The Child Development Center at Western Nevada College-Carson campus invites the community (non-students) to come by for a tour of its Pre-K and KinderKids classrooms for children ages 3-6 years.

Both full-time and part-time spots are available, by the hour and by half-day. Free transportation is available for kindergartners from and to Fritsch, Bordewich-Bray, Mark Twain and Bethlehem Lutheran elementary schools.

The center is open year-round, Monday-Friday, 7 a.m.-5:45 p.m., except Nevada state holidays.

Nevada GOP elects new officers

(AP) - A Las Vegas dentist has been elected chairman of the Nevada Republican Party.

Dr. Chris Comfort replaces Sue Lowden, who resigned Sept. 30 to launch her campaign for the GOP U.S. Senate nomination and try to unseat Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid in next year's election.

Comfort, who ran Clark County's Republican convention in 2008, was elected during a central committee meeting this past weekend in Hawthorne.

Sherry Dilley of Douglas County was elected vice chairwoman; Carol DelCarlo of Washoe County was retained as secretary; and David Buell, a Reno accountant, was elected treasurer.

Free pre-holiday meal Thursday

Carson Plaza retirement community, 2120 E. Long St., will host a free pre-Thanksgiving dinner at 12:30 p.m. Thursday for seniors 65 and older.

All the traditional favorites will be served and live entertainment featured.

CASA hosting training for new advocates

CASA of Carson City will begin a training for CASA advocates at 6-9 p.m., Thursday at the Carson City Juvenile Court, 1545 E. 5th St. This will be the first of 10 sessions.

Anyone interested is invited to attend the first session to learn more. There is no cost. The remaining sessions of this training will be scheduled around the holidays.

CASA advocates speak up for children who come into state care through a dependency/child welfare case. The advocate researches, monitors and advocates in Carson City's Juvenile Court and in the system for the child's best interest. Afternoon 'sound spa' planned for Saturday

Join Journey for an afternoon of divine chanting - a sound spa of toning and Tibetan bowls - 2-4 p.m. Nov. 21 at the Luv N' Light Studio at 512 N. Division St. (behind Sierra Accupuncture) in Carson City.

The program includes a sound journey to harmonize and balance the body. The group will create living "mandalas" with their voices.

These frequency mandalas radiate from the individual and spread out into the ethers to bring healing.
