LAS VEGAS (AP) - U.S. Sen. Harry Reid joined federal and state officials at an event in Las Vegas highlighting law enforcement efforts to identify and prosecute mortgage fraud in Nevada.
An aide says the Senate majority leader was accompanied Tuesday by Federal Trade Commission Chairman Jon Leibowitz, Nevada Attorney General Catherine Cortez Masto, and Assistant U.S. Attorney General Tony West in the media appearance at the Las Vegas Convention Center.
NeighborWorks Program Director Marietta Rodriguez and members of the Nevada Foreclosure Task Force also took part.
They highlighted federal legislation aimed at prosecuting cases of mortgage fraud, and helping struggling homeowners report scams and get in touch with mortgage lenders.
Sen. Reid says the aim is to give homeowners tools to fight con artists and to stand up for themselves and fight back.
