Douglas GOP hosting Christmas party

Reservations are being accepted for the Douglas County Republican Central Committee's annual Christmas party. It will be in the Nevada Room at the Governor's Mansion in Carson City on Thursday, Dec. 3.

Social hour begins at 5:30 p.m. with buffet dinner at 6:30 p.m. Cost is $22 per person. Reservations requested by Nov. 28. For information, call Cheryl 783-3521.

CTRH Auxiliary raffling off quilt

The Carson Tahoe Regional Healthcare Auxiliary's latest fundraiser is a drawing for a quilt made by one of the auxiliary members.

A picture of the quilt, which is 80 by 80 inches, is printed on the drawing's raffle tickets. The drawing is scheduled Dec. 12 during the auxiliary's Christmas luncheon.

The quilt will be on display at the auxiliary's gift shop in the regional medical center. Raffle tickets cost $1 each or $5 for six tickets and may be purchased at the gift shop.

The CTRH Auxiliary is an all-volunteer, non-profit, charitable organization that assists and supports the regional medical center, nursing scholarships and regional health-care needs. Profits from the fundraiser will support CTRH Auxiliary projects.

Dayton school hosting bazaar

The Dayton Elementary School Boosters will host the second annual Holiday Bazaar from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 5.

There will be many handmade crafts to choose from, including quilts, quillows (a quilt-pillow combination), clothing and hair accessories, jewelry, paintings, ornaments and other holiday decor. There will be jellies, homemade chocolates, homemade salsa and plenty of baked goods to eat there or take home.

Also on hand will be representatives from Avon, Pampered Chef, Scentsy, and Salt City Candle to help fill holiday needs.

Santa will be on hand to take pictures with the children and hear Christmas wishes. There also will be a snack bar with homemade soups and baked potatoes.

The school's fourth- and fifth-graders will be caroling from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m.

Railroad museum hosting steam up

With family around for Thanksgiving, check out the Nevada State Railroad Museum for its Steam Up event 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Friday, Nov. 27, and Saturday, Nov. 28. V&T Engine No. 25 will be fired up and giving rides.

The Elks Lodge will be selling hot dogs, hamburgers, sodas, chips, hot coffee and hot chocolate.

Bring the kids and grandparents out to ride the rails. Adults ride for $5; seniors 65 and older $4; children 6-11 years $3, and kids 5 and younger ride free. Call 687-6953.

Toys for Tots kicks off this weekend

The Ron Wood Family Resource Center will meet up with the Marines and Toys for Tots from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the north Carson City Walmart on Market Street. They will accept toys and cash donations.

They also will be at the Walmart on Topsy Lane in north Douglas County from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday at the same time.

Korean War memorial bricks for sale

Memorial bricks are available for purchase for Korean War veterans for Christmas.

"What a great gift to honor your veteran's service," said Val Jensen of the Korean War Veterans Association, Carson City, Chapter #305.

Bricks are engraved with the name, rank, service branch and years serving in the Korean theater from 1945 to the present.

The bricks are set permanently in the walkway of the Korean War Veterans Memorial Park near the entrance of Riverview Park at the end of East Fifth Street.

Bricks are $50 each and can be ordered by calling Jensen at 882-1739.

DAWG gift tree to help Douglas animals

The community will have an opportunity to help homeless animals this holiday season. Max's Pet Supplies, located in the Raley's Shopping Center in Gardnerville on Highway 395, and the Douglas Animal Welfare Group are partnering to supply much-needed items for the animals. A holiday gift tree will be displayed at Max's from today through Dec. 22.

The tree will display ornaments filled with specific requests. Those wishing to help can purchase and donate the requested item. Items include dog and cat food, toys and other important needs of the animals. The selected gift will be added to Max's Big Gift Box for later pick up by a DAWG member and delivered to the Douglas County Animal Shelter before Christmas.

Kori Snyder, owner of Max's, will be available to assist with the selection of donations and provide more information about the organization. The store opens at 10 a.m. Monday through Saturday.
