OAKLAND, Calif. - Oakland police say a 4-year-old girl is in stable condition after she was struck in the back by a stray bullet.

Sgt. Rick Andreotti says the girl was in a bedroom of her west Oakland home around noon Friday when a bullet fired outside went through a wall and struck her.

No one else in the house was hurt.

Andreotti says police do not believe the home was the gunman's intended target.

The shooting apparently took place in the street several houses away, but police say the gunman was gone by the time they arrived.

They do not have a motive for the shooting. There was no indication that anyone else had been wounded.
