Mark C. McLellan, of Sparks, Nev., a native of Massena, N.Y., unexpectedly passed away on September 10, 2009, at his home. He was born December 2, 1960, in Bellflower, Calif., the son of James Kenneth and Mary Elizabeth Driscoll McLellan.
He graduated from Massena Central and later from SUNY Potsdam with a degree in biology. He served for a brief time in the U.S. Air Force. He moved to Nevada in 1985. A marriage to Maria Gomez ended in divorce.
Mark was a lab tech for ALS Minerals in Sparks. He enjoyed fishing, camping, working in the labs, and studying the solar system.
He is survived by his dear friend, Theresa Strizek; two children, Mark James McLellan, currently serving with the U.S. Air Force in Afghanistan, and Melissa Elizabeth McLellan of Reno, Nev.; two stepchildren, Pablo and Paloma; his mother, Mary Elizabeth "Betty"McLellan, LBSH, Brasher Falls; a sister and brother-in-law, Debra and Mike Murphy, Schenectady, N.Y.; brother and sister-in-law, Andrew and Diane McLellan, South Carolina; and nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his father, James in 1984 and his brother Robert A. on August 25.
There will be no calling hours. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Messena, with the Rev. J. Michael Gaffney, officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
