Military Report: Estes completes basic combat training

PV2 Skyla King-Estes graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina on Sept. 11.

During the nine weeks of training, the private studied the Army mission, organization, and military customs and courtesies; performed drill and ceremony marches, and received physical training, rifle marksmanship, field training exercises, and special training in human relations.

Skyla is the daughter of proud parents Jim and Kymber Estes of Carson City, sister of twins Jacob and Jeremy Estes, granddaughter of Sharon Causey, and great-granddaughter of Christine Ray, both of San Bernardino, Calif., and granddaughter of Jerry and Betty Ann Estes of Carson City.

On Sept. 11, 2009 at the Carson City Capitol building a flag was flown in her honor of her graduation for family and friends who could not attend her graduation, also for the victims and loved ones of those who lost their lives on Sept. 11, 2001, as well as one flown at the U.S. Capital in Washington, DC.

Estes is a 2008 graduate of Carson High School in Carson City. She is currently at AIT at Fort Gordon, Ga., and will return to be stationed in Carson City.

She will pursue a career in nursing while proudly serving the Army National Guard and the United States of America.
