Recycled Seconds fashion show set

Recycled Seconds, a fashion show and cocktail party to benefit the Capital City Arts Initiative programs, is set for 6:30 p.m. Oct. 16 at Classy Seconds, 411 Hot Springs Road.

The evening includes gourmet hors d'oeuvres, a runway fashion show at

8 p.m. featuring DIY fashions form Northern Nevada's young designers and artists in a glamorous Bohemian setting.

A portion of the proceeds will go to support Advocates to End Domestic Violence.

Fruithoopz.com will perform with music by DJ Gil_T_oNE. Original fashions, vintage wear or black tie optional.

Tickets are on a voluntary sliding scale of between $25-$250 per person or $50-$500 per couple. Students are $10.

The Recycled Seconds art show can be seen through Jan. 8 at the CCAI Courthouse Gallery. The Recycled Seconds Off the Rack show will be on display in the lobby of the Carson City Library through Oct. 31.

Central Lyon County to offer open burning

Open burning in Central Lyon County Fire Protection District will be effective Oct. 17. A permit is required and burning is limited to clean vegetation and yard debris only.

Airport Authority board member sought

The Carson City Board of Supervisors is seeking applications from persons interested in serving about 10-16 hours per month on the Carson City Airport Authority. This committee oversees all matters pertaining to the Carson City Airport.

There is one position open for a four-year term that will expire in October 2013. The opening is for industrial. The applicant must be a manufacturer in the Carson City Industrial Airpark, but not a fixed-base operator.

Volunteer applications will be accepted until Oct. 30 and may be obtained from the city's Web site or by calling 887-2286.

Leather & Lace to host poker run

To support Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the Leather & Lace Motorcycle Club, a women's charitable group, will host its second annual "Nomad Poker Run for Cancer Awareness"

Oct. 17 in Carson City.

A poker run (open to all), crafts, live music, raffle/auction, and a Hunk-a-Thon will fill the day. Delicious barbecue from Brothers BBQ will satisfy any appetite. All event proceeds will benefit the local non-profit organization Carson Advocates for Cancer Care.

The event kicks off at 9 a.m. and continues to 3 p.m. at Carson City Harley-Davidson, 2900 Research Way. Poker run fees are $20 for a single, and $30 for a couple. Entry fee includes lunch.

And, guys are invited to come out and compete in the Hunk-a-Thon. Men over 18 can strut their stuff for glory and bragging rights.

Mustang Sallie will MC the raffle and auction, with items large and small. Donations are still being accepted.

RSVP seeking Nevada Day volunteers

The Retired Senior Volunteer Program is recruiting volunteers for the Nevada Day Parade and the events that the Nevada Day Committee hosts in conjunction with the state's admission day every year.

Volunteers can help with the sales booth, headquarters coverage, award presentations, banner coordination and more. RSVP can pay volunteers out-of-pocket expenses such as mileage, and each volunteer is covered by five different kinds of insurance.
