A Jolly Rendezvous: About the most entertaining spot to pass a half hour or so in the afternoon is in front of the Sheriff's office where at that time of day a half dozen or more "calamities," as Farmer Treadway calls them, congregate to discuss issues of today or yesterday. It is wonderful how fast they can dispose of the most obtuse questions, especially matters of State. Go ye, who would become initiated in the mysteries of the world, and listen to the oracles.

There is a big deficit for county commissioners, some $20,000, deposited into the Nye and Ormsby County Bank in a day when the county had money to deposit.

The Nevada state prison population has increased by two this week to 273 inmates.

A "quiet revolution," the Chevrolet Corvair, will be on display Friday at Andy Gotelli Motors. The Corvair is the only car with an airplane-type horizontal engine, independent suspension, fold down rear seat and is air cooled. The engine is in the rear, where it belongs in a compact car.

Several hundred people show up for a fund-raiser by proponents for Carson City's Children's Museum at the Governor's Mansion.
10 YEARS AGO
A group of Carson City residents wants to equip the Paul Laxalt Federal Building's tower clock with chimes to toll the hour all the way to Christmas carols. The group is backed by Mayor Ray Masayko and Bill and Dottie Kelley.
